In a traditional organization, people generally produce results because management wants the results – whereas in a volunteer organization people produce results because they want the results. This is a key to attracting, motivating, and retaining top performers. In any organization, if people believe in and are enjoying their work, they’ll innovate, take risks, and trust one another because they are committed to what they’re doing. In such organizations, fragmentation, competition, and reactiveness are replaced by systemic thinking, cooperation, and innovation.
