One cannot lead while constantly gripping or carping about problems in the office. This merely breeds unhappiness and dissatisfaction. It can quickly set a development office on a destructive, downward, drowning swirl of despair. A leader accentuates the positive, identifies areas that deserve improvement, works toward initiating solutions to problems and, most importantly, has deep “in the belly” love for what he or she is doing.
Love does not mean dedication to degree of excluding any other pursuits or interests. It does, however, mean a principal commitment to the cause of leadership. It means showing by your actions that it to all over again you would unquestionable dedicate life and limb to leadership, but with the desire to avoid whatever mistakes you made along the way.
