Leaders “stick to the knitting.”

Here I am borrowing a phrase from Peters and Waterman’s In Search of Excellence to emphasize that leaders should pay attention to their prime responsibilities before they launch new undertakings. Clearly, leaders need to be creative and innovative and explore new approaches, but they need to make sure they get the basics right before delving into new challenges.
